Best Maternity Bras (for all occasions)

The best maternity bras and what to wear under your Borne Too basics.

A collaboration with Robyn from Yummy Mummy Lingerie

Our Borne Too staples were designed specifically so you are able to wear them with your own choice of maternity bra.  No more uncomfortable built-in bras. Also a blessing if you have suddenly found yourself with a more than ample bosom following pregnancy or milk setting in.

The Borne Too Freedom Collection also allows you to clip your maternity bra around your tank strap to ensure no slipping off your shoulders for all day comfort.

If you think about it, your maternity bras are going to be one of your most used items of maternity clothing. They are a comfortable and supportive option when pregnant and fairly necessary when breastfeeding!

You don’t have to spend a bomb on your maternity bras but it can be worth investing in a couple of good bras that will go the distance – they will be worn everyday and they will get milk-stained, grabbed at and open and closed about a bazillion times.

We chatted with Robyn owner of WA company Yummy Mummy Lingerie .  Yummy Mummy encourages women to put themselves first as mothers, take time to look after yourself and remember that you, too are deserving of nice things just as much as your children. (Now that is mantra we can get behind!)

A wealth of knowledge, she shared with us some of her best-selling and most loved maternity bras from her online store.

We’ve split them into a few categories so you can skip over to the ones that suit you (or your boobs):

Best maternity bras for big boobs/big busted women

The brain child of an awesome Aussie mum-boss, the band size is 12-18 and cup size D-G.
I love the versatility of this bra as you can wear it 3 different ways – halter, x-back or standard. And it has moulded cup and flexible underwire so you will be well supported and get a gorgeous shape.

Another brilliant Australian brand designed by mums, for mums.  This clever bra incorporates a unique design that allows a very supported and discreet breastfeeding experience for mum and bub. With both inner ‘wings’ in place the bra provides a full a-frame so supportive that you do not have to hold your breast in place. Yippee – two hands free to hold your bub, adjust you position and make feeding so much easier.

The full style a-frame also provides a greater degree of modesty when feeding. As you become more adept at the feeding juggle, try the bra with only one inner ‘wing’ in place. This side-sling style that offers a little less support but increases the beautiful skin on skin contact between you and bub.

HOTmilk is another brand which is great for larger busts. Many of their styles go to an H cup and my favourite at the moment is the Eclipse in Black or Nude.

Best bras for smaller boobs/small busted women

CAKE – Mousse bra.

My recommendation for smaller busted mums. They are a moulded cup so give you a lovely shape under t-shirts and come in two gorgeous colours- Rose and Fig (pictured).   The size range is 8 – 14 band size and A – DD cup size.

HOTMILK –  My Necessity nursing bra.

This style is also perfect for smaller-busted mums.  It has removable pads which provide a nice shape (and a little bit more bust). The sizes are ‘multi size’ so you can choose band size Small, Medium, Large or X-Large and then cup size either A-D (for the smaller busted) or DD+.  This bras comfortable design is also great for those who like support when sleeping.  Available in Nude, Pink and Black

Best maternity sports bras/crops

CADENSHAE – Ultimate Maternity Sports bra.

By far my best selling sports bras are the Cadenshae. In 2016 the Ultimate bra was my top seller! They are designed for hi impact exercise and DD+ cups.
So many rave reviews about this bra – looks and support.  They look amazing and are so functional, there are many happy mumma’s keeping fit and looking great in this amazing bra.

CADENSHAE – Fit2Feed Maternity Sports bra.

This is perfect for smaller busted mums.
Again great looks (how lovely is that action back!?) and gorgeous colours to choose from (Ocean Blue, Hot Pink, Black and White Stripe and Black). This activewear bra is designed for moderate-high impact activity. Smaller busted mummas can get away with wearing these for high impact activity but larger busted may need the support of the Ultimate bra for high impact work.

Best bras to sleep in/get up to a baby all night in

CANTALOOP – Adjustable Nursing bra.

These are a really great value bra – even more so as they are on sale now! Seamless and soft and stretchy so that they really accommodate breast changes at night when there may be a long time between feeds (if you’re lucky LOL). They come in practical colours of Black, White and Nude and easy sizes of Small, Medium, Large and XL. They are a generous fit so really great if you’re a larger-busted mumma.

CAKE – Cotton Candy Seamless Nursing bra.

Super comfy seamless bra with t-back design for extra support. Easy sizing options of Small, Medium, Large and X Large. Choose from Black, Steel Grey or Blush.

Other recommended products/accessories

I really love the Bamboobies Re-usable Nursing Pads that we have in stock. Such a super cute shape but most importantly so soft and absorbent! Wear them ‘heart up’ or ‘heart down’ depending on the cut of your bra and you are good to go. They dry really quickly so turn-around time between uses is really fast.

The other product that we have only just started stocking is the Biodermis Epi-derm C- section strips. These are silicon strips that help minimise c-section scarring. I am really keen to hear how this product goes – research findings are positive but the proof is what my customers let me know.

Thanks to Robyn for her knowledge and time showing us the best maternity bras for your body type or preference.
